MONTY PRECAST

Construction Industry

Rom Binghay had no idea that Monty Precast would become as successful and well-respected in the short time that it has when he bought a small precast concrete business on the outskirts of Melbourne. With his lifelong-learning mind-set and constant pursuit of “doing things better”, it’s hard to imagine that this result could have been anything different.

A Mechanical Engineer by profession, Rom has worked with large multinationals in Canada and the United States and settled back to Melbourne over a decade ago. Stifled by the local professional opportunities available, he decided instead to strike out on his own and enter into the construction world. A world he initially knew little of but proved that he could bring a lot to.

Communication is key

Often the process is can be disjointed. Incorrect assumptions by key stakeholders inevitably leads to chaos on and off site. Monty Precast stands out from the others with a process that revolves around constant communication on the three main aspects: Shop Drawings, Manufacturing and Installation. On the back of this and by having a problem-solving mentality it is easy to see why Monty Precast has grown rapidly.

Paul Ferla has recently joined as a partner and comes with over 30 years of experience as a Rigger, Installer and Construction Supervisor. As well as being an experienced operator, Paul is not only able to foresee issues before they occur, he can also skilfully communicate the issues to each stakeholder and adjusts accordingly.

Monty Precast does shop drawings in-house; and on-site, workshops the process from an early stage to avoid later issues and works with the developer and builder at all stages of the project to make sure it all goes as smoothly as possible which benefits all involved. In contrast, other precasters get their shop drawings done offsite and sometimes overseas which doesn’t translate well into the real world. It’s not all smooth sailing, so when things do inevitably go awry from time to time, Monty Precast being a boutique outfit, has the agility to course correct and importantly in a timely manner.

In Monty Precast, Rom and Paul have built a business that stands apart from the traditional precast concreters, with problem-solving, communication and ultimately relationships at the centre.

There from the beginning

Binghay & Co was part of Rom’s journey from before he even bought the business. Being his first time as a business owner, Rom needed assistance with research and doing due diligence to make sure that the business was the right fit. Much like Monty Precast works with builders at every step, Binghay & Co worked closely with Rom from stress testing figures, to setting up the correct structure for his business and guiding him through the purchase process.

Ces, Purita and the Binghay & Co team have guided Rom and Paul as the business has grown, Bi-monthly results reviews and a constant eye on cashflow has ensured that potential issues are foreseen, opportunities are uncovered and quickly acted upon.

Now more than ever Rom and Paul need business advice to help them continue to grow in the right direction and Binghay & Co are there all the way.
